Where should heavy cargo be placed on a trailer?

Place heavy items as low as possible and close to the axles so the load remains stable and the combination is not overloaded on one side.

Is covering the cargo with a tarpaulin enough?

No. A cover does not replace securing the cargo. Use suitable restraints attached to solid points so the cargo cannot move during braking or cornering.

What should I check after connecting the trailer?

Check the coupling lock, safety cable, electrical socket and lights, wheels and tyres, jockey wheel, overrun brake and all fasteners.
